what happens next?

Right.......there is this xxxxx hospital in Bradford. Just abt a 5 min walk away from home. It is a huge hospital, looks bigger than Manipal Hospital in Bangalore. The board at its entrance reads :

XXXX Hospital

This is not an emergency hospital
All accident cases should go to YYYY Hospital

And I always thought, whichever it is, a hospital is a hospital...and every hospital should be equipped/prepared to attend emergency cases. What if a case suffers death on the way to YYYY Hospital??

Typically accident cases require a lot of blood transfusion because of blood loss. If theres been internal bleeding, it sometimes calls for an immediate operation which may not be trivial. And of course there is always the whole support equipment thats needed. If a hospital is not equipped with these, they might be able to give only first aid. Maybe thats the reason they have such a board.

Jagan,
A lot of it is!!

Jax,
As I said, hospital should be equipped to deal with such events. I agree that complex cases need complex procedures......but not everytime is a case sooo complex!

I too have heard of things like this that happens in UK.They do not give consultation to patients who do not reside in the same area where the hospital is.. same things goes for schools,.. am i right?

Lakshmi,
Yes, it is so. When you reside in a area, you have to register with the General practioner[GP]. So you'll be automatically registered to that hospital.....and in case of any non-emergency cases you have to go to your GP! But this does not apply to emergency cases. :)

Utky,
Fortunately or not, hospitals dont work that way here. There arent any privatised hospitals here [maybe there are one or two in the bigger cities like London]....everything is managed by the govt. and its called NHS [National Health Service]....all their services [I mean everything...from a paracetamol to an artificial heart valve...maternity/ surgeries, rooms] are charge free....the doctors are paid by NHS. Its free for me too!! But to get an appointment for a surgery or something you've got to wait for weeks together [thats the negative part]
